WHITE AMUR ''GRASS CARP''
So for the first time in a long time I am lost. Lost on how to strategize a fishing scenario with my own brain and the tools I own. These fish are some of the most hated fish in N. America due to many factoids that only pertain to them. One, they have the shortest G.I. tract (mouth to anus) of any animal in the world, so when they eat, its pretty immediate that they shit. So the lakes fill
up with shit, which floats. Which is so ironic because its the entire reason they are put into lakes and water hazards etc to control algae and plant populations from growing high. But instead you get tons of shit. I don't believe the Game and Fish and owners of golf courses thought this one through. Plus, once the plants and vegetation are non-existent so are the other species of fish not to mention lack of oxygen due to the ''shit problem'' I just mentioned.
But these fish are spectacularly large. Huge carp like ghosts parading the surface of water slurping literally, grass. They come up to the bank and slurp the grass right off the shore. ITS CRAZY TO VIEW. So I am asking anyone if they know any good grass carp flies? Or things that work? Because apparently I do not know what I am doing? I've tried every fly under the sun to no avail. Shout me an email and I'll post it up here. Or... try my message board below at the bottom. AND OF COURSE CATCH N RELEASE ALL FISH.
On AnOtHeR nOtE... Recently some people have been posting some really nasty comments (which I deleted) about my blog. You would think, or at least I would think, that people would appreciate this blog to open up doors of local fishing pubs that could be entered without
problems. I have been supporting catch n' release and ethical fishing practices since I began fishing. If anyone knows wildlife laws and fishing ethics , it's me. It really pisses me off when someone comes on here and trashes my website because I informed every fisherman about a secret only they know. Which of course is the real reason there all pissy at me. Of course I do not want people to get fined by the Game and Fish and Wildlife wardens. Of course I do not want you to kill fish so we have none left to fish for. Of course I'm not stupid. So if your going to leave something idiotically jealous and pompous, fuck off. Ill delete it within 5 anyways.

OMNI GOLF COURSE TUCSON, ARIZONA
So. Lets. Talk. Golffishing. A little bit, shall we. Golf course water hazards in my opinion (depending how there managed/irrigated etc) can be some of the best warm water and sometimes freshwater fishing in North America. Complete solitude. Zero percent fishing pressure. And possible trespassing, once again, depending. ha..
Omni National Golf Course in Tucson Arizona has been home of several professional golf tournaments. I even believe Tiger himself has putted these kept lawns. I had a friend who worked for the pro shop who randomly decided to tell me one day that he's seen BEASTLY BASS dart from the banks.
So I gave it a whirl.
The rest is history.
You take La Cholla until you hit a water tower then whenever you can pull over in the dirt after the tower is where your going to park. Then walk across the dusty barren field appraching the gold course.
You'll come across 2 ponds. One smaller. One way larger. The smaller pond sits near the green so be careful not to get nailed with a golf ball, but if you go an hour or two before dusk, there won't be a single golfer anyways so that solves all those problems. In the smaller pond I've caught and released (can't stress enough how importante it is to catch n' release. thx.) over 50 or more nice 1-5lb largemouth from shore texas rigging a 6 or 7in Power Worm or soft worm of your choosing with a 2/0 hook and a conehead weight dragging the bottom. They'll usually crash wreck the crap out of it a couple of seconds after it plops in the water. Cast tight to shore they don't like the deeper water for some reason.
The larger pond is a mystery. I have caught a couple small bass here, but the real catch is the elusive White Amur that reside here. If your not familiar White Amur were introduced from Asia as a nasty means to rid ponds of over vegetation problems. The catch is they have the shortest throat to anus tract of any animal. So they shit out everything and it floats. Its vile. Tons of fisherman want to slaughter these fish. I agree. They don't help, that's for sure. They are insanely spooky and I have spent hours trying to hook one with a fly rod. There HUGE. 20+ lbs easy. Some people put blades of grass on a hook, or bread, because there vegetarians they only eat plants. Recently this was the case. White Amurs floating the surface and banks. No bass. There has been a fishkill in this pond for some reason. Could be the oxygen supply or irrigators etc of common urban lake facilities.
If you walk down the entire fairway you'll come to a bridge. Cross it. You'll immediately see a pond. Pass it. It's no good. Fishkill. Go past some white houses. Wham, there's a big pond. That pond has the LARGEST and BEST FISH POPULATION of the entire course. And quite possibly Southern Arizona.
Legal Strategy:
Say you didn't know you couldn't fish there. This always works. No one can get angry at someone who will leave peacefully. I have fished here a hundred times and no one has ever said anything. Go before dusk, No golfers. No security. No problems.
Fishing strategy: Texas and Carolina rigged worms 6-7in plastics that smell or not. Huge poppers, streamers, for fly fishing. It's not really that specific. There not used to fisherman so they'll bite. But... I have never caught anything using buzz baits, spinners, dry flies etc. And. NOOOOOOO BAIT. Com on guys.
Thx.

BOULDER CREEK, BOULDER COLORADO SPOT
Boulder Colorado has some of the finest unknown unspoken fishing in the lower 48.
Boulder Creek runs for miles alongside a bike path from the edges of town and will take you anywhere your heart desires. This stream ''Boulder Creek'' I have fished since I was a little guy.
It's rampant with Brown trout that line the banks and will dart and dash outside of there cubby holes cut under the bank for a muddler minnow or wolly bugger even stripped against the current.
Their boldly beautiful and average about 14+ in. Rainbow's also inhabit the creek, but are rare.
Now the juice. Near 28th street bridge right next to the Harvest House tennis club is a "Fish Observatory." People can walk down a short set of stairs and watch from 3 viewing windows and possibly catch a trout swimming by. Even fish pellets are sold by the handful in a vending machine for a quarter. This won't do anything except give the Colorado Game and Fish Dept a quarter.
Years ago when this was built they used bulldozers and dug insanely deep holes beneath the land stretched rocks and included man sized boulders beneath the water to create a habitat unlike no other for growing fish. Then they hand stocked the little pool with fingerlings, as well as giant pigs.
That was in the 1980's. It's 2009 folks.
I have fished this pool several times. That's what it is. A pool. Not too large but about 15+ feet deep. You can fish it on the bank on the bike path side of the creek, before the bridge that crosses over the creek.
I have caught and released several 5-10 lb rainbows and browns.
Then there's Chuck...
Chuck is a cuttbow hybrid from what other local fisherman that fish this pool tell me.
Could be a rainbow.
Chuck is over 20-25 lbs locals say. He is as large as your leg your sitting there reading this with.
Guaranteed.
Legal Strategy:
Go for dusk. Less bikers/pedestrians. Locals may walk by and say, ''Can't fish there.'' Then move on for a couple minutes and go back. The Harvest House employees may say the same but don't typically care. It takes usually an hour or more to get a Game and Fish employee out there and if they ever were to show up, which they never do, simply show your CO State license and say you didn't know the rules. BUT, NO BAIT ON BOULDER CREEK. DO NOT BREAK THIS LAW. THEY WILL FINE YOU IF CAUGHT. THEY WILL NOT FINE YOU IF CAUGHT FISHING A POOL WHICH SAYS ''NO FISHING''. CATCH AND RELEASE ONLY PLEASE.
Fishing strategy:
Like I said this pool's deeper than shit. Spin may be the best. Heavy weight. So use bluefox spinners, mepps, etc. Get it down. Fly fishing you could go for a conehead muddler minnow with extra weight. Or, get a sinking tip fly line. Wollybuggers(dark browns, blacks). Bead Head Prince Nymph, Bead Head Hare's Ear, as a dropper to a thick streamer will do the job.
Look. Be prepared. There are monster Toyota sized derby winners lurking here. They bite quickly, and aggresively, and are not used to fishing pressure. Tie damn good knots. I would always snap a couple off, maybe it was Chuck...
Go get Chuck. Send me a pic if you do. I'll make it the biggest story on here.
