BOULDER CREEK, BOULDER COLORADO SPOT

Boulder Colorado has some of the finest unknown unspoken fishing in the lower 48.
Boulder Creek runs for miles alongside a bike path from the edges of town and will take you anywhere your heart desires. This stream ''Boulder Creek'' I have fished since I was a little guy.
It's rampant with Brown trout that line the banks and will dart and dash outside of there cubby holes cut under the bank for a muddler minnow or wolly bugger even stripped against the current.
Their boldly beautiful and average about 14+ in. Rainbow's also inhabit the creek, but are rare.

Now the juice. Near 28th street bridge right next to the Harvest House tennis club is a "Fish Observatory." People can walk down a short set of stairs and watch from 3 viewing windows and possibly catch a trout swimming by. Even fish pellets are sold by the handful in a vending machine for a quarter. This won't do anything except give the Colorado Game and Fish Dept a quarter.

Years ago when this was built they used bulldozers and dug insanely deep holes beneath the land stretched rocks and included man sized boulders beneath the water to create a habitat unlike no other for growing fish. Then they hand stocked the little pool with fingerlings, as well as giant pigs.
That was in the 1980's. It's 2009 folks.

I have fished this pool several times. That's what it is. A pool. Not too large but about 15+ feet deep. You can fish it on the bank on the bike path side of the creek, before the bridge that crosses over the creek.

I have caught and released several 5-10 lb rainbows and browns.
Then there's Chuck...
Chuck is a cuttbow hybrid from what other local fisherman that fish this pool tell me.
Could be a rainbow.
Chuck is over 20-25 lbs locals say. He is as large as your leg your sitting there reading this with.
Guaranteed.

Legal Strategy:
Go for dusk. Less bikers/pedestrians. Locals may walk by and say, ''Can't fish there.'' Then move on for a couple minutes and go back. The Harvest House employees may say the same but don't typically care. It takes usually an hour or more to get a Game and Fish employee out there and if they ever were to show up, which they never do, simply show your CO State license and say you didn't know the rules. BUT, NO BAIT ON BOULDER CREEK. DO NOT BREAK THIS LAW. THEY WILL FINE YOU IF CAUGHT. THEY WILL NOT FINE YOU IF CAUGHT FISHING A POOL WHICH SAYS ''NO FISHING''. CATCH AND RELEASE ONLY PLEASE.

Fishing strategy:
Like I said this pool's deeper than shit. Spin may be the best. Heavy weight. So use bluefox spinners, mepps, etc. Get it down. Fly fishing you could go for a conehead muddler minnow with extra weight. Or, get a sinking tip fly line. Wollybuggers(dark browns, blacks). Bead Head Prince Nymph, Bead Head Hare's Ear, as a dropper to a thick streamer will do the job.

Look. Be prepared. There are monster Toyota sized derby winners lurking here. They bite quickly, and aggresively, and are not used to fishing pressure. Tie damn good knots. I would always snap a couple off, maybe it was Chuck...

Go get Chuck. Send me a pic if you do. I'll make it the biggest story on here.
